Smart collision warning system with radar, camera, and LED alerts - mounted on a vehicle's rear window.
Distance is an innovative collision warning system designed to dramatically reduce rear-end collisions - responsible for nearly 30% of all automotive crashes. The device mounts to a vehicle's rear window and integrates radar sensing, a Full HD dashcam, LED light alerts, and an audio alarm into a compact, patent-pending triangular housing.
The system continuously calculates Time-to-Collision (TTC) based on real-time radar measurements, relative velocities, and acceleration data. When a dangerous approach is detected, it simultaneously alerts the host vehicle driver (via audio and in-car display) and the approaching driver (via high-visibility LED warning triangle and audio alarm) - a dual-alert mechanism that creates a synergistic safety effect.
The patented housing design features a pre-shaped triangular rim with integrated LED light elements, a suction-cup windshield mount with adjustable arm, and a core body housing the radar sensor, camera module, processor, and power management. The system supports both standalone operation and integration with the vehicle's existing audio-video system.
ATI provided a full end-to-end development process - from initial PRD and industrial design through mechanical engineering, proof of concept, functional prototyping, and IP strategy support via ATI's external patent attorney network. ATI also supported the client's Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign preparation.
