Picking the right factory in China is the single highest-use decision in a product project.
One of ATI's specialties is leading product development from concept to mass production. Over close to 30 years we've helped hundreds of entrepreneurs and businesses bring products to life.
Central to that capability is finding and choosing the right manufacturer in China for each product. Production cost is meaningfully lower in China for most categories, and Chinese factories have accumulated deep know-how that lets them produce quickly, efficiently, and at high quality.
Before sourcing begins, every project gets a Product Requirements Document. The PRD captures the full specification: functionality, materials, mechanics, electronics, certifications, packaging, and target cost.
Without it, factories are guessing - and quotes from different factories can't be compared.
China is enormous. There are factories specialized in plastics, metals, electronics, optics, textiles, food contact, and more - and within each category, there are factories optimized for different volumes and quality levels.
We match the factory to the product - not the other way around.
Verified suppliers, on-site factory audits, reference checks, and review of past work for similar customers all reduce risk before the first PO is signed.
ATI's local team in China makes this hands-on rather than paperwork-only.
Solid contracts cover specs, lead times, QC standards, IP, and payment milestones. The standard payment structure - 30% deposit, 70% against pre-shipment inspection - protects both sides.
Independent QC at the factory before shipment is essential. Just as important is building the relationship over multiple production cycles - the best factories reserve their best work for their most reliable customers.
Many of our supplier relationships go back decades. That depth lets us match products to factories with confidence and to negotiate terms that newer importers can't access.

Don't choose the factory with the cheapest quote. Choose the factory most likely to deliver the spec, on time, every cycle. The total landed cost of a 'cheap' factory is almost always higher than the cost of a fairly priced, well-matched one.
Full specification before any sourcing begins.
Right specialization, right volume, right quality level.
Audits, references, and on-the-ground checks.
Specs, lead times, QC, IP, and milestones in writing.
Pre-shipment inspection before final payment.
The best factories reward reliable, repeat customers.
Most consumer products benefit from China's cost and capability. Some products - certain regulated, ITAR, or low-volume specialty items - are better suited to local manufacturing.
Use a partner with people on the ground. Online directories help, but verification, negotiation, and QC require local presence.
Two to six weeks for most categories - longer for complex products or restricted categories.
Yes, but it's expensive. Tooling, samples, and certifications often need to be redone. Choose carefully the first time.
A fair price covers materials, labor, overhead, certifications, and a reasonable factory margin. Quotes that look 30%+ below the market are usually hiding something.
NDAs, manufacturing agreements, registered design rights, and split sourcing of critical components. Combine them - none is sufficient alone.
